Responsibilities
- Transcribe Medical Records: Accurately convert audio recordings of physician dictation into written medical reports, including discharge summaries, operative reports, and clinic notes.
- Quality Assurance: Proofread and edit transcriptions for grammar, punctuation, and medical terminology accuracy before final submission.
- HIPAA Compliance: Adhere strictly to all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations regarding patient data privacy and security.
- Software Proficiency: Utilize industry-standard transcription software (e.g., EHR systems) to manage and upload files securely.
- Communication: Collaborate with healthcare providers and office staff to clarify ambiguous dictation or resolve transcription discrepancies.
- Document Management: Organize and archive completed transcripts in the appropriate electronic health record systems.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of professional medical transcription experience in a clinical setting.
- Certification: Certification as a Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) or RHIT/RHDS is highly preferred.
- Education: Associate degree in Medical Transcription or a related healthcare field.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and specific transcription software (e.g., DQS, MModal).
- Typing Speed: Minimum typing speed of 65 WPM with high accuracy (99%+).
- Internet: High-speed, reliable internet connection and a dedicated, quiet home workspace.
